The contractor and developer, working in a joint venture with investment business High Street Group, has started on the 127-home project to the west of Middlewood Locks.
Demolition works completed last summer to clear the site and enabling works are now under way to help deliver a mix of homes on the site at Middlewood Plaza. The majority of the homes are apartments along with 43 duplexes and town houses.
Triangle Architects has designed the project, which reaches nine storeys at its highest point, on a site is bounded by Muslin Street to the West, Craven Street to the east, and Cow Lane to the north. Lichfields has supported the project team as planner; planning consent was granted in April last year.
Along with starting on the project, United Living has also relocated its office to Salford at an adjacent plot to Middlewood Plaza, moving from the Old Cheshire Cheese business centre in Broadheath, near Altrincham Retail Park.
The company has moved 10 staff to a 1,400 sq ft space as it ups its focus on the private rental sector in the North West, under the brand name United City Living. Other projects the business is looking at include a 156-unit scheme on Talbot Road, Old Trafford.
Managing director for United City Living, Charlie Dunn, said: “This is the first of a number of large-scale private sector developments that we’re delivering and with plans for further sites in Manchester we have taken this opportunity to relocate to a much more central hub.

“As we’ve seen in the recent Manchester crane survey by Deloitte, much of the city-region’s current development is being driven by the residential sector. We’re keen to support this growth and also bring United Living’s core values to the commercial market.”
